Back in the early 2000s, I started making bags in my spare time. I just moved back to Memphis from New York after the housing market crashed. I was taking care of my two-year-old daughter at the time and work was slow. I needed another option to make some money so I started making bags. After a while, I got kind of good at it and they were moving. I bumped into an artist buddy of mine, Ephraim Urevbu, and he gave an older painting he wasn’t doing anything with. Told him I’d do something dope with it. I took the painting home, looked it over and made this bag out of it. It was my first time doing something like that, integrating actual paintings into a bag. It was a bit of a challenge, moving the canvas in such a way that the paint didn’t crack or crease. But it turned out really nice. I’m revisiting this concept on 8/27 in NYC.
