Conversation 24/43 Basket feeding can be varied without being truly variable. You can feed one ball high, the next low, one fast and the next slow—but if every ball still comes from the same coach, in the same position, the player learns to read the same source of information. In a live rally, every action changes what happens next. The speed, spin and placement of one shot alter the opponent’s position, movement and available options. That creates new opportunities—what we might call nested affordances—which shape the next action. This is why coach-generated variation is not the same as variability emerging through interaction with an opponent. Is variable basket feeding better than repeating the same identical feed? Absolutely. But don’t confuse variation in the feed with learning to adapt to the game. Follow my account for more evidence-based coaching. As always, the conversation continues tomorrow. #TennisCoaching #EcologicalDynamics #ConstraintsLedApproach #SkillAcquisi...
