One thing you have to understand about loyalty:
People are loyal to their own value systems.
They're not loyal to your sense of morality.
And they're not obligated to do what you think they should do just because you would do it for them.
A lot of people make the mistake of thinking:
"I did this for you, so you'll do the same for me."
Not necessarily.
You can't understand someone's loyalty until you understand their values.
Because when shit goes sideways, people don't suddenly become who you wanted them to be.
They reveal who they actually are.
If you choose a partner who doesn't have strong values, and that relationship eventually falls apart because of those values, you can't completely blame them for being exactly who they showed you they were.
