Can magnets make a pencil float? 🧲 This DIY magnetic levitation experiment shows how magnetic fields, opposing forces, and gravity work together to suspend an object in mid-air. HOW TO MAKE IT: Cut three 5 cm-wide slits in the foam board at these lengths: 2 cm 6.5 cm 12.5 cm -Place a sturdy craft stick into the first slit. -Insert four magnets evenly into the other two slits – make sure each row of magnets has charges facing the same direction. -Slide two magnets onto the pencil and secure them in place with rubber bands, one on each side of each magnet. (IMPORTANT: The magnets on the pencil should face the opposite direction of the magnets in the foam. They need to repel each other, not attract!) -Position the pencil between the magnets and adjust the pencil until the magnetic forces are balanced. -Use the stopper to keep the pencil aligned, then watch it levitate! #ScienceTok #ScienceExperiment #MagnetExperiment #PhysicsExperiment #STEM
