In 2019, Dave was on a police service call when his team was ambushed by a suspect, tragically resulting in the loss of one of his partners.
Confronting the challenges of PTSD, severe anxiety, and a major depressive disorder that often accompany such traumatic experiences, Dave and his wife relocated to Sacramento. What started as a brief visit to fleetfeetsac for shoes evolved into a restorative journey. Dave joined a training program at his nearby Fleet Feet and found that running, alongside the supportive community, aided in his recovery.
“They weren’t just there to coach us, but they were there with arms wide open knowing what was going on with me. It really was an opportunity for me to see how much they cared about, not just me, but every single individual.”
For Dave, running has become his outlet. “When I’m out there running, it’s just kind of homeostasis.”
