From the glowing flows of
#Kilauea to the majestic geysers of Yellowstone, our scientists monitor volcanic activity to help protect lives and communities. We operate 5 volcano observatories 🔭 across the U.S., keeping eye on about 170 potentially active volcanoes! 🌋 👀
Volcano observatories for Hawaii, Alaska (alaska_volcano_observatory), California, Yellowstone, and the Cascades region play a key role in forecasting eruptions, assessing hazards, and conducting groundbreaking research.
We work closely with local communities, emergency responders, and scientists to stay ahead of volcanic activity, providing early warnings and aiding emergency plans.
Wherever the potential threat, albeit Mount Spurr, Kilauea, or Mount St. Helens, these observatories are at the forefront of understanding volcanic risks and ensuring safety.
