GoDaddy founder and billionaire Bob Parsons credits the Marine Corps with shaping his success, but says it took 48 years after Vietnam to finally feel like he had “come home.”
Parsons, who is also featured on Forbes’ list of 250 of America’s Most Successful Living Veterans, served 13 months as a Marine infantryman in Vietnam, where he was wounded by shrapnel and later lived with PTSD. In 2018, after years of trying to address his symptoms, he underwent psychedelic-assisted therapy with a trained therapist, including ayahuasca and mushrooms.
“The thing I like to say is that it’s been 48 years since the war and I finally came home,” Parsons told Forbes.
He has since donated $7 million toward psychedelic research, including $5 million to establish the Parsons Research Center for Psychedelic Healing at Mount Sinai.
