“Come on mama, you can do it.” Those were the words Anne West imagined hearing from her daughter Emma, as she completed the 500 mile Camino de Santiago — a journey they had once hoped to complete together. After losing Emma to suicide in 2023, Anne West committed to fulfilling the goal. Emma’s birth mother, Davaughn Conrad, also joined Anne for part of the Camino. Through their shared love for Emma, they created an extraordinary tribute. Inspired by Emma’s passion for helping others, Anne also transformed the journey into a fundraiser for The Hidden Opponent, raising over $22,000 to expand mental health resources and support for student-athletes.
