Alameda County voters will have one less ballot measure to decide on this November after the county Board of Supervisors voted 3-2 to delay approving a ballot measure that could raise the minimum wage to $30 in unincorporated Alameda County over multiple years. Instead, the board directed county staff to conduct a study on the potential impacts of the proposed hike instead of putting the item — which collected 49,370 signatures to qualify for the ballot — before voters during the general election. As a result, the public likely will not be able to vote on the measure until March 2028. Proponents claim the increased minimum wage would help workers afford basic needs in a county with a living wage of $42.22. Opponents have raised concerns about whether small businesses would be able to afford to keep workers on with such a drastic increase in labor costs.
