Philadelphia's drag community is rallying around performer and designer Chantal Waldorf after they were detained by US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). The news was announced via Waldorf's official Instagram account, which confirmed the Nicaraguan immigrant had been taken into custody. "Since he arrived in this country, he has dedicated himself to being a hardworking person... who has integrated and contributed in a positive way to society," it read. "Sadly the constant fear of deportation today is coming true for Chantal," it continued, adding that the performer "still has the conviction to fight for his place in this country". Supporters quickly set up a fundraiser to cover Waldorf's legal costs, with many paying tribute to the performer as both a drag queen and a designer whose creations have been worn by other queens.
