“So, what are your plans after graduation?”
Have you found a job? Are you applying to graduate school? Where are you moving?
Somewhere along the way, senior year stopped being about celebrating how far we’ve come and became more about proving we’re ready for what comes next. What’s meant to be a milestone is beginning to feel more like a race.
The problem isn't that we’re planning for the future, because we should be. The problem is that we’ve let the future become more important than the present. Instead of seeing senior year as a time to reflect on how far we've come and how hard we've worked, we're treating it as preparation for what comes next.
And the closer graduation gets, the easier it becomes to measure our success by what comes after we finish university rather than the things we’ve already achieved.
Let’s just take time to recognize that the life we’ve been so busy preparing to leave is the same life we are still living.
