Today marks the opening of „The Family of Man“ at Nihombashi Takashimaya, Tokyo - a landmark moment 70 years in the making. First organized by Edward Steichen at Museum of Modern Art, the exhibition brought together hundreds of images by photographers from around the world as a declaration of global solidarity in the years following World War II. When it opened at the very same Takashimaya Department Store in 1956, it drew enormous, enthusiastic crowds and became one of the most influential photographic exhibitions Japan has ever seen. The exhibition’s permanent home is Clairvaux Castle in Luxembourg, where it continues to be shown today. Now, seven decades after it first captivated Japanese audiences, this reproduction returns to Nihombashi Takashimaya - running from 12–24 August 2026.
