We are saddened to share the news that National Rodeo Hall of Famer Phil Lyne has died. He was 79. One of the most accomplished all-around cowboys in rodeo history, Lyne was among a select handful of cowboys to be inducted into the National Rodeo Hall of Fame and the PBR Ring of Honor and to receive the PBR’s Ty Murray Top Hand Award. The National Rodeo Hall of Fame and the PBR Hall of Fame are both housed here at The Cowboy. Born Jan. 18, 1947, in San Antonio, Texas, Lyne began roping at age 4 and competed in the Texas Youth Rodeo Association before becoming a standout collegiate cowboy at Southwest Texas State University. Lyne entered professional rodeo in 1969 and immediately established himself as one of the sport’s most gifted young competitors, earning the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association’s Rookie of the Year title.
