Today is Red Dress Day. We honour the lost lives of the Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls, Two Spirit, and Gender-Diverse people (MMIWG2S+) and children through this micro-gallery in the Humber Polytechnic and the University of Guelph-Humber Library. It is one of many micro-galleries located across Canada, collectively known as The Canadian Library, and serves as a living memorial. Each book is wrapped with fabric purchased from Indigenous businesses and one of the names of the thousands of lives lost is stamped onto each book’s spine. The Canadian Library creates visual lessons to honour MMIWG2S+ and children, and raises awareness and opens conversations about the wrongdoings and inequities in Canada.
