Getting a new schedule to start the fall semester is a thrilling process. With excitement racing through their veins, students open Skyward and check their class list, eager to see what next year holds. But for students at SM East — amidst AP, honors and electives — lies an anomaly. Financial Literacy, a standard level class the district requires to graduate.  No matter how challenging a student’s schedule looks, at some point they hit a grade point average ceiling thanks partially to the burden of required classes. When a student has to take non-honors credits, it barely boosts their overall weighted GPA, even if they receive an A in the class.
