One of my biggest goals as an artist is to create work that feels functional. Last week i finished painting all four walls of a school gym which definitely was a big test of art within a functional space. I wanted to create a little world within the gym and at first it felt mostly like a room full of murals. Once we got some basketball in the mix though, it started to feel like the immersive playground I was envisioning from the beginning. Hopefully the kids that experience it everyday feel the same.
