The NFL has a domestic violence problem. Even after strengthening its personal conduct policy in 2014, nearly half of the league’s violent-crime cases involve domestic violence. While that percentage is lower than in the general population, “lower” cannot mean acceptable. James Pearce is the latest in a long line of players disciplined by the league, but punishment alone isn’t enough. We need education, accountability, and a genuine commitment to growth. Our society spends far more time teaching women how to protect themselves than teaching men that they have no right to harm them.
