Today, we are crowning model Anok Yai as our #QueenoftheWeek 👑 One of the most influential models of her generation, Anok Yai has redefined beauty standards and become a trailblazer for greater representation in the fashion industry. Born in Cairo, Egypt to South Sudanese parents, Yai and her family immigrated to the United States when she was two years old, settling in Manchester, New Hampshire. She went on to study biochemistry at Plymouth State University. Yai was first scouted after a photo of her at Howard University’s homecoming week went viral in 2017, when she was 19 years old. In 2018, Yai made history as the first South Sudanese model to open a Prada runway show and only the second Black model to open for the fashion house after Naomi Campbell. Since then, she has appeared on the covers of Vogue, Elle, and Harper’s Bazaar, starred in campaigns for some of the world’s most celebrated fashion houses, and walked the runway for designers including Chanel, Louis Vuitton, Dior, ...
