Smith machine shoulder press!
My pressing exercise for delts was mainly dumbbell shoulder press from 1983-late 1992.
As I grew stronger and stronger, it became awkward and quite dangerous to actually just get those 160lb dumbbells into place, it wasn’t practical.
I had done behind the neck press with a barbell back in the mid 1980s, so I switched my pressing exercise to the smith machine, but in front and not behind.
It felt great, there was no issue with setting up and plus it allowed me to do extra intensity techniques such as rest pause, which we used often.
I think it was quite a shame that you didn’t get to see me press those gigantic 160lb dumbbells, it would’ve been cool to see.
So here in 1996 in the filming of Blood & Guts, 3 plates per side to failure. The bar frame we had at Temple Gym itself was probably 40kg too! It was heavy!
We often did rest pauses on the smith machine, try it out, only on machines I recommend.
