Brandy, Anika Noni Rose and Halle Bailey just shared the stage at Disney’s Princess: The Ultimate Concert Celebration and for Black Disney fans, this was SO much bigger than a concert. ✨ In 1997, Brandy became the first Black actress to portray Cinderella in Disney’s groundbreaking Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Cinderella. Then, in 2009, Anika Noni Rose made history as the voice of Tiana, Disney’s first Black princess in an animated feature. And in 2023, Halle Bailey became the latest to make history as Ariel in The Little Mermaid while facing an incredible amount of racist backlash simply for being cast as a beloved Disney character. What started with Brandy helped pave the way for Tiana. Tiana helped expand the possibilities for the next generation. And now Halle is carrying that legacy forward.
