Ottawa got hammered by another powerful storm in the midst of its historic, record-breaking summer‼️😨⛈️ A violent thunderstorm ripped through Ottawa-Gatineau Wednesday night, bringing torrential rain, downed trees, flooding and widespread power outages. Environment Canada recorded a 107 km/h wind gust at the Ottawa Airport, the strongest measured there since the May 2022 derecho, along with nearly 22 mm of rain in just 26 minutes. Thousands remained without power Thursday, with some of the hardest-hit areas including Knoxdale-Merivale, College Ward and Aylmer. At its peak, more than 20,000 Hydro-Québec customers in the Outaouais were without electricity. The storm adds to an already historic summer. Ottawa has now recorded 510.1 mm of rain since June 1, officially surpassing the previous June-to-August record of 464 mm set in 1972, despite summer not even being over.
