One of the more interesting parts of building a dog app is seeing just how impressive AI is becoming and how easily it can still get things wrong. A recent study achieved 84% accuracy when using AI to classify dogs' emotional states from images. Then another study found something rather amusing: change the background and AI may change its mind about the dog. Grass or a sofa pushed predictions towards happy or relaxed. A veterinary setting or metal bars pushed them towards sad. Same dog, but change the background and you may get a different answer. I find this contrast fascinating. The technology is becoming incredibly capable, but capable and accurate aren't always the same thing. I think that's the interesting part of AI right now.
