While in Syria this past June, our team visited Sednaya Prison, the site where tens of thousands of prisoners were held, tortured, and killed by the Assad regime. Among those victims were activist Mazen Hamada and psychotherapist Majd Kamalmaz, both members of the SETF family. We visited Mazen and Majd’s cells and saw the walls that once held them captive before they were martyred. We spoke with former detainees who recalled the brutal conditions inside Sednaya, now reduced to rubble and ruin but still scarred by the ghosts of a violent past. Much of our work is now centered on holding war criminals accountable, including those responsible for the atrocities committed in Sednaya.
