In 2016, the Assad regime launched a ruthless campaign against Aleppo, bombing civilian areas and indiscriminately spreading terror and death. In the midst of that violence, the regime dropped flyers with chilling instructions that urged residents to give up, lose all hope, and succumb to their grim fate. Thousands of miles away, SETF sought desperately for a way to reach those on the ground. Our team had opened Wisdom House earlier that year, a kindergarten providing free education for children experiencing immense displacement and conflict in northwest Syria. From there, we began our very first Letters of Hope campaign, sending messages of love, perseverance, and support to bridge communities abroad and in Syria, letting them know they are never alone. For ten years and well past the fall of the regime, Letters of Hope has continued to thrive and spread sentiments of promise for the bright future of Syria.
