Rain was blowing sideways on the rocky shores of the central Oregon coast as Jamie Kish, clad in a rain jacket, leggings, and sandals with rainbow-striped socks, casually waded knee-deep through the tide pools at Bob Creek Beach.
Atop her head was a wide-brimmed straw hat with a black label affixed to the front that read “tide pool ambassador.” That’s a title she’s earned as part of her work at the Cape Perpetua Collective, an organization that supports the nearby Cape Perpetua Marine Reserve and educates the public about the intertidal life that needs protection.
