Nine PBS, a public service broadcaster based in St. Louis, is suing a cloud storage vendor for allegedly preventing it from accessing huge volumes of historical footage. In a lawsuit filed in Denver District Court, the station claims its access was abruptly cut off earlier this year by Open Source Storage (OSS). The lost footage, said to amount to roughly 50TB of data, reportedly includes clips shot over roughly 70 years of the station's programming, including the history of East St. Louis, the COVID-19 pandemic, and the Great Flood of 1993, which caused widespread damage to the Mississippi and Missouri rivers. OSS reportedly had an agreement with information technology firm Iron Mountain to provide data storage, but is now "defunct." As a result, the data was left stranded in one of Iron Mountain's data centers.
