A pair of GPU thieves have been arrested in Wuhan, China, after allegedly stealing RTX 5080 graphics cards from gaming PCs in hotel rooms designed for playing esports The men would book themselves into esports and gaming hotels that advertised rooms with high-end systems. They would specifically go for rooms with gaming systems featuring powerful graphics cards, such as the Nvidia RTX 5070 and RTX 5080. They'd then take an RTX 3060 and similarly affordable GPUs with them, and after checking in, make a swap. In their last attempt to spirit away a high-end GPU from a hotel room on July 18, the pair accidentally caused a power cut. They requested a room change, but staff investigated what had happened and discovered that the PC case had been tampered with. On closer inspection, the GPU had been forcibly removed and replaced.
