To strengthen drowning prevention efforts this summer, a village in China’s Jiangxi Province has turned a vacant lot into an open-air swimming pool for local children. Fed by fresh, flowing water from a nearby canal, the pool gives children a place to swim and play while providing a venue for drowning-prevention education. Three village officials and volunteers serve as safety monitors, patrolling the pool and responding to emergencies when needed. The pool operates for two to three months each summer, with a constant flow of fresh water. At least 200 children and their parents visit each day, while attendance can exceed 500 on holidays. #china #swimming #summer
