Ocean temperatures were hotter last month than in any July on record, according to the Copernicus Climate Change Service. Average sea surface temperatures reached 20.96°C, beating the previous July record of 20.89°C set in 2023. Western Europe saw widespread severe marine heatwaves, especially along the Atlantic coast and western Mediterranean.
