A 7.7-magnitude earthquake struck off eastern Indonesia on Saturday, August 15, sending strong tremors across the region and rattling tourists on Padar Island. Eyewitness footage showed a guide urging visitors to remain calm as the shaking continued. Around the port town of Maumere, rescuers reportedly found 20 people dead, six injured and two trapped under rubble, according to local rescue officials. Strong shaking was also reported across East and West Nusa Tenggara, with some residents saying it lasted around a minute. Indonesia sits along the Pacific Ring of Fire, one of the world's most seismically active regions, where several tectonic plates meet and frequently produce earthquakes and volcanic activity. #news #world #asia #earthquake
