Recent rain in Austria and central Europe temporarily raised Danube water levels, relieving pressure on Hungary's Paks nuclear power plant. However, record-low river levels persist due to severe regional drought.
While the rainfall provided short-term relief, Paks relies on the Danube for cooling.
To maintain water levels, Hungary opened a river dam, submerged two 80-meter barges to gain 20 cm, and is constructing an underwater riverbed structure to raise levels by up to 1.2m, underscoring the drought's severity.
