🆕 This massive merger shaped the young Milky Way! 🌌 🔴 Our Milky Way galaxy wasn’t always this size. It has grown through massive mergers with other galaxies: the Sagittarius and Gaia-Sausage-Enceladus dwarf galaxies. 🔴 Now, the NASA/ESA Hubble Space Telescope has uncovered evidence of another, even earlier event – its observations of 39 globular clusters in the inner Milky Way revealed that some came from a merger 11.8 billion years ago! 🔴 During this merger, our galaxy absorbed a dwarf galaxy which has been named Low-energy-Kraken-Heracles 🦑 or LKH for short.
