Firefighters were dispatched around 11am to the Echo Canyon Trailhead at Camelback Mountain for reports of a hiker experiencing a medical emergency. Crews made contact with an adult female approximately 1/2 way up the mountain. The patient stated she became overheated and could not continue her descent. In coordination with the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office, the patient was hoisted off the mountain by MCSO “Fox 1.” At the trailhead, cold-water immersion therapy was started after her core temperature was found to be above 104° with an altered mental status. The hiker was transferred to an awaiting ambulance and transported to the hospital in critical condition. #PHXFire
