Using unmanned aerial systems to support wildfire operations. Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS), commonly referred to as drones, are used to gather real-time aerial intelligence, map fire progression, identify hot spots, and produce detailed maps that help firefighters make tactical decisions. Recently, trained UAS operators from the CAL FIRE Sonoma-Lake-Napa Unit documented their work supporting mop-up operations on the Chute Fire by the CAL FIRE Nevada-Yuba-Placer Unit. By working closely with aviation resources to avoid airspace conflicts, UAS can help make mop-up operations more efficient. #Drones #UAS #Wildfires #Technology calfireneu calfirelnu
