Despite only learning how to DJ when I turned 50, I've been a musician for a while now. There are many habits I wish I started sooner.
Here are the habits that changed everything for me:
1: Finish music
It seems so simple, but so many musicians, including myself get stuck on this perfectionism mindset and don't output enough to get better.
2: Show up consistently
Every time you open up your music software and even tweak a few parameters, you are still making progress. Even if it's organizing samples.
3: Build real relationships
While building relationships online is incredible, it's
equally as important to go to shows and support your friends. Nothing beats the face to face interactions.
4: Create and share content
I get it, most musicians don't want to be content creators. But it's important to post content online and let your music be apart of it.
