Today we remember and mourn the loss of thousands of Americans on 9/11.  We also remember those who even in the worst of times chose to act heroically. Welles Crowther was a NYC native who went to work in the World Trade Center after playing lacrosse at Boston College. After the planes hit the twin towers, Welles sprung into action, rushing from his office on the 104th floor down below. Welles guided people who were unable to see in the smoke and carried injured office workers down to safety, saving numerous lives in the process. Sadly, Welles was killed when the South Tower collapsed an hour later. He’s known as the “Man in the Red Bandana” because when Welles was 6 years old, his father gave him a red bandana that would become his trademark. Crowther would wear a red bandana under all of his sports uniforms in high school, during his lacrosse games in college and on 9/11 was seen using a red bandana to cover his face from smoke.
