The Utah Department of Agriculture and Food’s Weights and Measures Program works to ensure accuracy and fairness in commercial transactions across the state. Inspectors verify that consumers receive the correct weight, measure, and price for the goods they purchase. Each day, inspectors travel throughout multiple counties conducting scale, price verification, and package inspections. UDAF has four full-time small scale inspectors, along with two additional inspectors who perform both small scale and fuel inspections in their areas. Currently, there are 1,551 registered businesses in Utah with small scales, totaling 11,337 scales inspected annually. Over the past 12 months, UDAF inspectors have completed 11,733 scale inspections, including rechecks and decommissioned units. During that same period, inspectors also conducted 2,367 price verification inspections at 1,619 locations, scanning 84,128 items to confirm pricing accuracy.
