High praise for a photographer is when someone says, “wow you don’t miss”.
When someone is kind enough to tell me that, I’m flattered but have to laugh to myself.
Because I miss all the time.
For those in the back, I’ll say it louder:
I miss. All. The. Time.

First frame? Too tight. Was using a 400mm on a play right in front of me. Then too soft. An arm blocking a face. Bodies in the wrong places.
But I keep shooting through the play and eventually, I get a cleaner frame. You can see his face, the composition works and, while it certainly won’t win any contests, it’s a decent frame.
Of the 4,420 frames I made from player arrivals to postgame press conferences, I deleted 2972 of them. Kept 1,440. Transmitted around 200 to my editor. Maybe 50 made a gallery.
