Your commission plan may be losing reps before they can succeed. This is especially common in challenging sales models: long sales cycles, hard-to-reach decision-makers, limited pipeline volume, and unpredictable deal sizes. A new rep can follow the training process perfectly for four weeks and still have very little commission to show for it. That's a dangerous gap. One option is activity-based training pay. Keep your normal commission structure, but add a temporary bonus tied to completing specific training and ramp activities correctly. The rep isn't being rewarded for simply showing up. They're being rewarded for executing the behaviors you need before the commissions have had time to catch up. That can also make the opportunity easier to explain during recruiting while giving new reps some early compensation as they ramp.
