What gets you to 40m won’t necessarily get you to 60m. Lotta coming back from 64 meters after a process that was much more than simply “going deeper.” At a certain point in freediving, effort is no longer enough. You can reach 20, 30, sometimes 40 meters with average technique, good physical capacity and determination. But as the depth increases, small technical mistakes become bigger problems. This is where I believe technical freediving really begins. Your technique has to become aligned with the depth you want to reach. And very often, the wall a freediver meets isn’t purely physical. It’s a combination of technique, mindset and old habits that have been repeated thousands of times. That’s where the emotional part starts.
