Equalization is not just about technique — it’s about proprioception. 🧠👂
I developed this exercise years ago for students who were constantly struggling with equalization. Over time, I realized it was also an excellent way to develop the control needed for deeper diving — 40, 50 and even 60 meters.
The idea is simple: instead of waiting until you’re underwater to practice equalization, train the movement on land.
👃 Pinch your nose
🔒 Use a K-lock
⬇️ Create gentle negative pressure for 3 seconds
⬆️ Then gently pressurize for 3 seconds
🫁 Keep your belly completely still
Think of it like a workout: one direction, then the opposite direction.
The goal is NOT to create maximum pressure. It’s to feel and isolate the structures involved — the glottis, soft palate, tongue and muscles involved in opening the Eustachian tubes — and improve your control over them.
Do 10–30 controlled repetitions a day.
During one depth session, you might only perform a limited number of useful equaliza...
