Geoparks are about more than rocks. They are about people, place and living heritage.
Joyce Country and Western Lakes UNESCO Global Geopark includes geological formations dating back 700 million years, as well as Ireland's only fjord, Killary Harbour.
It is also the first UNESCO Global Geopark on the island of Ireland to include a living Irish-speaking Gaeltacht community, linking geological heritage with language, culture and daily life.
Through the UNESCO Global Geoparks Network, UNESCO connects places like this around the world to support education, heritage conservation and sustainable development.
