Chris Johnson’s 2009 season remains one of the greatest years by a running back in NFL history. In just his second season with the Tennessee Titans, “CJ2K” exploded for 2,006 rushing yards and 14 rushing touchdowns, averaging an incredible 5.6 yards per carry. He became only the sixth player at the time to eclipse 2,000 rushing yards in a season.
Johnson was just as dangerous as a receiver, adding 503 receiving yards and two touchdowns. His 2,509 total yards from scrimmage set an NFL single-season record, a mark that still stands today.
His combination of elite speed, explosiveness and big-play ability made him nearly impossible to contain. Johnson finished the year as a First-Team All-Pro, Pro Bowler and NFL Offensive Player of the Year, forever cementing 2009 as the season that turned “CJ2K” into an NFL legend.
