The best trick on the EliteBook X G2i is the keyboard you are looking at. It is top-mounted, which means it lifts out from above in three steps with no screws, about a ten-minute swap instead of a full teardown to reach a bottom-mounted assembly. HP engraves a QR code on the bottom cover that links straight to ordering the replacement. The trackpad is its own module, swappable without disturbing the keyboard, haptic, about 23% larger this generation, with a waterfall edge that doubles as a slider for brightness and volume. The power key is the fingerprint reader, so one press boots and authenticates. Inside: dual fans up top, a 68Wh six-cell pack across the bottom, M.2 under a shield. All of it in a 2.4-pound machine that ran 17 hours 13 minutes on our battery test.
