Our annual e-waste recycling campaign wraps up September 7, 2026 and with a new school year approaching, now is the time to give those old phones, tablets, computers and other electronics a new purpose!
Do you ever wonder what happens to your old electronics (also known as e-waste)? Every year, nearly 1.3 million cell phones end up in landfills. Over 50 million tonnes of e-waste is produced every year, and only 15–20% of it is recycled properly. The remaining electronics are sent directly to landfill. Electronics contain valuable and potentially hazardous materials that need to be recycled properly ♻️
Here at your Toronto Zoo, and thanks to our guests and members, we have collected 60,433 cellphones, 69 tonnes of general e-waste, and have raised over $39,000.
