Six years later, Atatiana Jefferson's family is finally getting accountability, criminal and civil. Fort Worth has agreed to an $11.25 million settlement with her family, pending City Council approval this month. Atatiana was fatally shot in her mother's home in 2019 while babysitting her 8 year old nephew, after officer Aaron Dean opened fire through a backyard window during what started as a welfare check. Dean was convicted of manslaughter in 2022. Her sister says nothing can bring Atatiana home, but the family is grateful this case didn't go unanswered.
