Mary Frances Heaton taught the vicar’s daughter piano twice a week for two years. He never paid her. In 1837 she stood up in church and called him a thief and a hypocrite. She was arrested, denied the right to speak at her own trial, declared “a lunatic, insane and dangerous”, and sent to an asylum.
