Photography has played an important role in the history of national parks. Early photographers helped showcase the beauty, uniqueness, and significance of special places, inspiring people to support their protection. Their images allowed millions to experience remarkable landscapes, even if they never had the chance to visit them in person. Every year on August 19, we celebrate #WorldPhotographyDay, recognizing the art, craft, science, and history of photography. The day also encourages photographers around the world to share images that capture their perspectives, tell their stories, and showcase the places and moments that shape their world.
