Do you recognize this historic Galveston corner store way down the Strand?! Tucked away at 14th and Strand, this unassuming building has been serving its neighborhood for a long time. But the question is… is Sandy’s Country Store a Great Storm of 1900 #StormSurvivor? By 1881, the Pentony family (ran by Geraldine) had a grocery business on this corner, where they remained through the 1890s. Soon after the Storm, another grocery was operating at the same address. Through the decades, 1402 Strand continued as a grocery, liquor store, Jackie’s Saloon, and eventually Sandy’s Country Store.
