Andy Burnham has launched a national drive aimed at offering every person sleeping rough in England a route into accommodation by Christmas, backed by £442 million in government funding.
The package includes £340 million already committed to providing more than 1,000 settled homes with support over the next three years, alongside a further £102 million for the wider drive.
Burnham is also set to hold a national summit bringing together leaders from across society to discuss what more can be done to end rough sleeping altogether.
Referencing the ‘Everyone In’ scheme used during the Covid pandemic, he added: “We did it in the pandemic. We can do it again. But it needs all of us. Government will put the money in. But I’m asking leaders in communities and sectors across society to play their part locally too.”
